Five For Friday – July 11

Uncategorized
It’s been forever since I’ve linked up with Doodle Bug for Five for Friday so I decided to join back in today.

My fiancé and I are moving into a brand new and I mean brand spanking new apartment in August. So, we’ve been furniture and mattress shopping.  We finally found a mattress we liked and took advantage of the 4th of July sales, but my goodness…mattresses are expensive!

These are my brand new Nike shoes that I got to design.  My fiancé got them for me! So excited to try these out…especially since I’ve been trying to be really good about working out for the wedding.

One of my school projects this week.  I typed up my standards for my new school and then put them in sheet protectors with a binder ring to keep them organized and easy to get to.

And, back to the moving.  We are moving in a month and I’m also moving into a new classroom in a month. August will be crazy busy.  That being said, I needed to do some major clean out.  I will admit and confess that I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to school stuff.  I even had files saved from my first and only year so far of 3rd grade in case I needed it again.  Well the time came to go through everything and let’s just say the recycling bin is quite full this week.  Now, the next task is organizing all of the stuff I kept into binders.

As I mentioned above, I’m trying to work out a ton with the wedding next year.  I also want to just be healthier.  A few weeks ago I got the FitBit, which tracks your steps, flights of stairs, calories, active minutes, and can even track your sleep. I love it.  Something about being able to check in during the day on it keeps me motivated.  Does anyone else have one?

New Teacher Books to Read

Uncategorized

Now that summer is underway it’s time to start working on reading my new teacher books. I love having time to delve into new teacher resources. Here’s what I’ll be reading…

This one is for my new school.  It’s all about growth and fixed mindset.

I’ve read Comprehension Connections in a book study a few years ago, but want to brush up on it.  I taught first grade at the time and this book works well with 3rd grade and up from what I read.  Since I’m teaching 2nd graders who are working with 3rd grade materials I thought it would be great to refresh myself on this one.

Since I enjoyed reading Tanny McGregor’s Comprehension Connections, I recently purchased her new one Genre Connections.  I’m especially excited to see her info on nonfiction text. With Common Core, this is much bigger now than it used to be, so I can always get new ideas.

I saw this one on Amazon as well and thought it looked like it was chalk full of information.  Strategies that Work has a number of ideas that can be used in the classroom and I can’t wait to read them and try them out.

When I’m finished, I will post some of the new ideas I’ve learned on my blog.  So, be sure to check back!

So, new teachers (and I’m new again since I’m at a new school) are due back August 6.  Hopefully I can get all this reading finished while also planning a wedding, moving into a new apartment, working on TPT, and some crafts.  Good thing it’s summer!

Pinspired Thursdays

Uncategorized
I’m linking up with Mrs. H over at Just a Primary Girl for Pinspired Thursdays.  Now, that summer is here…the Pinterest projects can begin!

I’ve decided now that it’s summer, it’s time to cook and bake more.  I’m also really into using the crock pot.  Makes meals so much easier!  Next week, I’d like to make….

Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Recipe ~ 4-5 Chicken Breasts, thawed • 12oz bottle RedHot Wing Sauce • 1oz pkt Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning ~ Cook chicken in crockpot on high for 3hrs. Drain juices. Combine wing sauce & ranch. Pour mixture over chicken, cook on high for 30 mins, or until done. Serve whole breasts or shred and serve on buns.
I found this recipe here at the Frugal Girls.  Simple recipe with a few ingredients and looks tasty!

Now, I know I’m behind to the party on this next Pinterest find.  I’ve been wanting to make one of the teacher toolboxes for the last year or two.  However, I never seemed to find the time.  Well, this is the year and summer I’ve decided to do it!  I bought my toolbox at Lowe’s the other day for only $20.  See 4th Grade Frolics version below….

Check back on Monday.  I hope to have it completed in time to link up for Monday Made It!

Moving On and Advice Needed….

Uncategorized
So, I’m excited to announce that I will be moving schools again this summer.  I will still be in the Vegas area, but will be teaching at a school in Henderson.  Still second grade, but I will be leaving public school and moving to private. I’m very excited for this change and to be finding a school that is a great fit for me as a teacher and person.

Since I’ve taught public school for 7 years and this is my first time venturing into private, I’m asking for advice from any private school teachers out there.  What did you like? What advice would you give a newbie private school teacher?  This school is not religiously affiliated, but I would love advice from anyone whose taught private school – no matter what kind!  Please comment below!

Thanks in advance for advice. I look forward to learning more about the private school sector!
Happy Friday and Happy 1st day of summer for me and many others.  For those who have a few more days/weeks to go, hang in there!

June Currently

Uncategorized
Wow! How is it June?  And, thank goodness it’s June at that!  I have 3 more days of school left.  2 days with kids and one for teachers….boy am I ready for summer.  I’ve linked up with Farley for June Currently.  Be sure to link up with her here.

Listening: I haven’t fully gotten into this season of the Bachelorette, but I’m hoping to watch the episodes I missed on DVR and then go from there.

Loving: Only 3 more days until summer begins! 2 more days with my sweet kiddos, one teacher work day, and then I’m free for the summer!

Thinking: Projects- I have many TPT projects started, almost finished, etc that I need to finish. I also have new project and ideas for the classroom that I’ve been thinking about and need time to get started on.

Wanting: To jump into wedding planning. My fiancé and I are getting married  next June.  We have a venue and a date, but I’ve been waiting for school to finish up to get started on everything else…and I can’t wait….I’m so excited.  Especially after we went to his sister’s beautiful wedding this weekend.  Now, I’m raring to go and get planning!

Needing: Sleep. The end of the year and the beginning of the year are always so rough on teachers. I’m always tired, but I lay in bed each night thinking of everything I need to do or try to remember to do to pack up the classroom and get the school year wrapped up.

Summer Bucket List:
1. Wedding plan – getting ahead on as many things as possible while I’m not working in the summer.
2. Trips – we have some trips and staycations planned – some much needed relaxation
3. School Projects – I’m already ready to get moving on things for next year. Can’t wait to start linking back up with Monday Made It, now that I actually have time to make something.

Here are a few pictures from my fiancé’s sister’s wedding in Tucson this past weekend. We had an amazing time. Can’t wait for our own wedding next summer!

May Currently…a few days late

Uncategorized

With all of the end of the year craziness, I’ve realized that I got to jumpstart myself and get back into blogging.  What better way to get back into it then with Farley’s Currently.  Check out here site here to link up….

Listening: I love Bar Rescue. It’s one of the shows that my fiancé and I enjoy watching together.  Sundays are great days not only because they have new episodes, but because they typically also have marathons.  I think someone should start a School Rescue show using the same concept…

Loving: This weather here in Vegas has been beautiful. Not too hot yet, but perfect.  Nights are nice outside and the sunshine during the days has been gorgeous.

Thinking: I need to go to the gym.  With the long busy days it’s been difficult finding motivation to get to the gym or work out.  Sadly even on a Sunday I’m needing to motivate to get myself out the door and to go.

Wanting: Summer needs to hurry up! I’m ready for the nice, lounging days of summer.  Being able to sleep in, make my own schedule, and go to the restroom whenever I want (teachers you get this…we’re the only ones who have to go to the bathroom on a schedule…)

Needing: My fiancé’s sister is getting married at the end of May. I’m so excited for all of the festivities but am needing some new dresses for all of the events.  What a problem to have lol…  My Loft bag on loft.com is rather full right now :-).

Surprise: I enjoy reading Just a Primary Girl’s blog and following her on Instagram and TPT. She has wonderful ideas and loves organization!  Everyone should check out her blog here….

Hope everyone is having a great Sunday!

Wow!!! Quick Catch-Up

Uncategorized

Well…I had no idea it’s been almost a month since my last post, but it doesn’t surprise me.  March and April have been super busy months.

In addition to birthday celebrations at the end of March, I went to New York City the first week of April to watch and support my fiancé’s basketball team as they played in the National High School Tournament.  What a fun event! They made it to the Final Four and I was so proud of all the coaches and players – they left it all out on the floor!

After New York, there was only one week before spring break, which was this last week.  Why does Spring Break or really any break seem to fly by, but a regular school week seems to go at a snail’s pace?  Well, spring break saw us traveling again as we went to Arizona to check out wedding venues.  We stayed at Arizona Grand Resort, which is a beautiful, fun resort that I highly recommend for anyone going to Phoenix.  Wedding venue decision coming soon…

School has been super busy as well. It was state testing time and although my second graders do not take state tests, they have been busy with their monthly eValuate test.  I was so proud to see a 10% growth in math from March to April and a 13% growth in ELA.  They have been working so hard.

Anyways….enough for now. Just wanted to do a quick catch-up to explain my absence.  Lots of ideas, blog posts, and new TPT products coming soon….

Hope everyone had a nice Easter!
